Author and Shamanka teachings founder Ilka Marcenay- Bearfoot will open and host the fire ceremony and Medicine Wheel. For more than 25 years, Ilka has been walking a soul path of encounters, rituals, healings and teachings from around the world. She crossed the road of Médecine du Quebec men and women and a Mi’kmaq grandfather from New Brunswick, who passed on the teachings of the Medicine Wheel, the sweat hut, and the sacred songs of his people. She also completed Shamanic Practitioner Training with The Medicine Circle in Toronto, where she learned to offer shamanic treatments. She has discovered that she was mostly wearing Bear Medicine, deep healing of hidden emotions and memories. She was initiated for seven years by the Mongolian shaman Grandmother Ayangat, and she visited Mongolia four times. She wears the traditional drum and armor today, and has been initiated into the Oracle Ritual, a sacred ceremony specific to this culture. Nepalese Shaman Bhola Banstola also passed on his teachings to her in Nepal. She received the Nepalese drum there, carrying their ancient wisdom. She has been twice to Swedish Lapland, where she shared knowledge with a Sami shaman. In New Zealand, she received the teachings of Maori healers and participated in a number of initiation rituals imbued with depth and wisdom. In the US, she experienced a Vision Quest in the Sacred Valley of Chelly with the Navajos- a remarkable experience connecting with the Earth. She had the honour to represent Canada for two consecutive years at the Festival du Shamanism in France. She also taught the Four Directions Dance at the Healing and Tradition Dances Meeting. She was invited to Morocco at the Noujoum event – Union of Shamanic Wisdoms of the World, as a representative from Canada, to share her Medicine. On the terms of dreams and the unconscious, she studied for four years with Robert Moss, a renowned active dream specialist and was interested in Carl G’s psychology of the depths, and Jung’s anima and animus archetypes. She has participated in many initial trips, either alone or in group, to Egypt, Vanuatu, Japan, India, Bali, Hawaii, Mexico, Peru and Mount Shasta, the United States. She also passed on the teachings received in several countries: France, Belgium, Switzerland, to Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon and to New Caledonia in the Pacific. Ilka published a book about shamanism at Vega editions in Paris, titled Walking in your shamanic power, on the traces of ancestral traditions.
